Abstract: In order to meet the needs of the national informatization strategies, including triple play, smart city, fundamental broadband network construction and etc, the telecommunication service providers in China are now actively progressing on the replacement of the copper access network with fibers. And during this process, ODN(optical distribution network) is the most critical and difficult part of the construction and renovation of FTTH. The design and the standardization of the ODN scheme are vital subjects to the telecom service providers.This article provides a comprehensive discussion on the design method of FTTH ODN, including the topics of how ODN can support the development of PON techniques, ODN coverage radius, the splitting method, the splitter locating, the user cable network topology, cross connecting distribution method and ODN network acceptance metrics.
