Study on Candidate Technologies for NG-PON2

Abstract

Abstract:

As EPON and GPON are now being mass-deployed around the world and 10 Gbit/s PON has been standardized,FSAN launched the standardization project of the second next generation passive optical networks （NG-PON2）.This article analyses the requirements of telecom operators for NG-PON2 and investigates a variety of alternative technical solutions,such as TWDM-PON,WDM-PON,OFDM-PON,exploring the realizability and coexistence with legacy PON systems.
