Abstract:

Along with the gradual depletion of IPv4 address resources,how to introduce IPv6 is a major concern of telecommunication operators. Especially,the most important problems is the affect of introducing IPv6 on the access network,and how access network evolves into the next generation Internet. This paper first analyzed the affect and requirements of IPv6 on the access network. Then with consideration of current status on the access network equipment,two main methods to support IPv6 services: IPv6 transparent and IPv6 aware,are presented. Finally,the evolution strategies of the access network targeted to the next generation internet are shown.
