Abstract:

This paper introduced a new multi-rate multicast congestion control strategies to meet layered multicast receivers' heterogeneity in available bandwidth. This receiver-driven congestion control strategy, adjusting the the number of layers and the rate of each layer dynamically according to the changes of network situation, using the optimal layer rate allocation algorithm to meet the receivers' heterogeneity in available bandwidth. TCP-equation is a generally used to estimate receivers' the available bandwidth. Simulation results show that the strategy make good performance on TCP-friendliness. Meanwhile it can optimize overall throughput.
