Telecommunications transport networks carry aggregated communications information transparently, reliably and efficiently, supporting a full range of communications service provider(CSP)services and service networking layers (IP,Ethernet,ATM,TDM,etc.). While optical-specific technology advances will continue to be essential for continued scalability and cost/bit advances,it is asserted here that a combination of external drivers will have the greatest impact on shaping the form of the next generation of transport networks. The converging drivers for change were discussed, a vision of how the broader network architecture as well as transport networks change was laid out, and the changing network attributes and technology directions central to this transformation were illustrated.

To effectively improve the throughput performance of secondary user in cognitive networks, a dual threshold based opportunistic spectrum access policy was proposed, which could be implemented under the condition that secondary user had non-ideal spectrum sensing capability. The proposed policy can take both channel quality information of secondary user and the inaccurate channel occupation information into account, to make secondary user access the channel in sensed idle and busy states with different channel quality thresholds. Based on this, the throughput performance of secondary user can be improved significantly by utilizing the transmission opportunities with good channel quality. With this policy, an optimization problem maximizing the effective throughput of secondary user with interference constraint for protecting primary user was formulated, and the optimal channel quality thresholds were derived under non-ideal spectrum sensing. Simulation results demonstrate the effective throughput performance of secondary user with non-ideal spectrum sensing capability can be improved significantly by implementing the proposed dual threshold based opportunistic spectrum access policy.

Single carrier frequency domain equalization(SC-FDE)is widely recognized as an very promising technique for its lower peak-to-average power ratio, but it also needs more accurate channel estimation method. A low complexity two-dimensional MMSE channel estimation algorithm based on time-frequency domain separation feature of channel was proposed in order to improve estimation performance and predigest the complexity. The two-dimensional MMSE estimation can be simplified as two one-dimensional MMSE and the SVD algorithm was used to reduce the complexity of one-dimensional estimation. The UW as the cyclic prefix could reduce the overhead of system. Noise variance was also estimated at the UW. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the conventional LS algorithm and MMSE algorithm. The complexity of the proposed algorithm was also lower than the conventional one-dimensional MMSE method.

A new solution: reuse the IP addresses by extending the protocol stack longitudinally was presented. In this way, it can not only get very big address space, but also have very good compatibility with current IPv4 network. So the upgrade has minimal impact, requires a minimum investment, and can be quickly deployed.
